A homeowner in the south of England was branded ‘selfish’ after they complained about being woken up by an air ambulance during the early hours of the morning.
The Southampton resident asked Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to ‘explain’ why they had been flying at 4am.
They said they would no longer donate to the charity rescue service because it was being ‘inconsiderate’.
The air ambulance team shared the complaint and said: ‘We always try our best to be there for people but messages like this really affect our team’s morale.
‘We are sorry the helicopter wakes people up at night but it is not our intention to disrupt our evening but rather save someone’s life.’
More than 2,000 social media users jumped to the air ambulance’s defence and said they were ‘gobsmacked’ by the resident’s moaning.
Twitter user Cheryl MGrory said: ‘Anyone with common sense would know at 4am you are flying for an emergency.
‘So many selfish people in the world.’
Meanwhile Phill Holding wrote: ‘I am not from your area however if any air ambulance would like to fly as low as they please over my house any time, day or night, to save a life then feel free.’
Another Twitter user said as a result of the complaint ‘I will be increasing the monthly donation I make to my local air ambulance!’
They added: ‘Ignore the haters! You are lifesaving heroes! I’m going to hazard a guess that the moaners don’t offer a great deal to society.’
After the outpouring of support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: ‘We are genuinely overwhelmed by your kind replies.
‘Sadly this isn’t the first time we’ve had a complaint like this and it probably won’t be our last, but it’s reassuring to know you are there for us.
‘Thank you for all your support.’Internet Explorer Channel Network
