A vast Cork period property up for sale could make for an ideal investment for someone looking to run it as a premium hospitality business or make it their very own home, provided they can afford its hefty price tag.
The Ballinacurra House Estate, located 4km west of Kinsale, includes a main house dated to the 1770s, a four-bed stone cottage and a three-bed coach house situated upon a 23-acre waterfront site for a price of €4,000,000.
The main house, which has undergone extensive restorations and an extension, was previously operated as a boutique hotel and wedding venue but also has the potential to be returned to a spacious residence.
The centre portion of the property is a Georgian House which has been remodelled, with its west wing converted to bedroom accommodation with two spa rooms on the ground floor. The east wing been converted to entertainment and bedroom accommodation.
The property also has a grand ballroom, dining area and services on the ground floor.
According to the Daft.ie listing for the house, on entering the reception hall the original reception rooms of the property are to the left and right and give access to the large family kitchen.
On the first floor are two spacious ensuite bedrooms. In the west wing there is a library, massage room/study and six ensuite themed bedrooms. The east wing to the right is currently laid out for commercial use as a wedding venue and might require reconfiguration if the house was to be returned to a family home.
The accommodation in the east wing includes the bar and ballroom which opens to the 120sqm conservatory on the ground floor. These reception rooms are connected to the commercial catering kitchen and general stores and offices. On the first floor is situated a music themed resident’s lounge and six ensuite bedrooms.
The lands of the estate include stables, expansive gardens, woodland walks, a small stream running through the lower garden and a jetty on the foreshore.
In addition, the property enjoys “considerable frontage” to the Ballincurra and White Castle creeks which flow into the Bandon River, and which are lined by the estate’s private woodland.
The historic state was originally built by John Swete, high sheriff of Cork, who sold it to the Bleazby family from Cork city in 1791. In 1831, William Bleazby enlarged the main house with the addition of the matching east and west wings.
The following century, Ballinacurra was sold to artist and explorer John Danford, and after his death in 1970 it passed into the hands of an order of nuns who had cared for him in Africa when he was ill.
After two more ownerships, the estate was bought by its current owners in 2000, who spent the next three years extending and improving it.
The property’s listing notes that while it is currently furnished and equipped for a commercial enterprise, the contents are not included in the offering.
