THE government further lowered its booster target population for its second run of the vaccination blitz set this December.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said the “Bayanihan Bakunahan” from December 15 to 17 hopes to provide boosters to seven million Filipinos, a drop from the 9 million in the first campaign.
In the Laging Handa briefing on Tuesday, Duque said in Filipino the lower booster target was attributed to the need to prioritize the second-dose jabs for 54 million of the population by yearend.
Even if the first run of the vaccination blitz fell short of the target nine million over three days, Duque said the activity was still successful as the government managed to reach 2.7 million jabs per day, which he claimed was the highest rate per capita across the globe.
In the first Bayanihan Bakunahan from November 29 to December 1, around 8.01 million doses were administered and another1.9 million in the two-day extension, for a total of 9.9 million jabs over five days.
As of December 6, a total of 53.4 million Filipinos have received their first doses and 38.7 million have been fully inoculated while 561,125 have received their booster shots.Internet Explorer Channel Network
