A négyszeres világbajnok 2022 végén zárta le F1-es pályafutását, egyelőre végleg, de a visszatérését továbbra sem lehet teljesen kizárni. Vettel és Alonso karrierje pedig egy jó ideig összekapcsolódott, hiszen komoly ellenfelek voltak a 2010-es évek első felében.

Bár Alonso azelőtt nyerte a két bajnoki címét, hogy Vettel megérkezett volna az F1 mezőnyébe, a ferraris időszaka éppen akkorra esett, amikor Vettelnek a leginkább ment a Red Bullnál, így jó néhányszor komoly csatát vívtak a pályán, és sokszor borsot is törtek a másik orra alá.

„Nagyon versenyképes volt, szerintem ő volt a legkeményebb ellenfél, akivel valaha megküzdöttem” – mondta a talkSPORT-nak Vettel a spanyol veterán kapcsán, aki nemrég hosszabbított szerződést az Aston Martinnal. „Volt néhány igen szoros bajnoki csatánk egymással, és a karrierem során ő egyike volt azon versenyzőknek, akik mindig ott voltak.”

Amikor azonban a legjobb pilótákról kérdezték őt, akkor Vettel nem igazán hezitált: a két hétszeres bajnokot, Hamiltont és Schumachert említette meg. „Azt mondanám, hogy Michael és Lewis. Hogy miért? Mert a számok magukért beszélnek. Michael volt az én hősöm, Lewis pedig a legjobb a statisztikák alapján” – hangzott Vettel véleménye.

A pénteki nap híre vélhetően már megvan azzal, hogy az Audi bejelentette az egyik jövendőbeli versenyzőjét.
