En medio de la temporada de lluvias que ya se hace presente en la ciudad de Bogotá y de la crisis por el agua que está atravesando la ciudad actualmente, surge la interrogante sobre el uso adecuado del agua de lluvia recolectada en los hogares. La recomendación principal que ofrece Viviana Alvarado, ingeniera ambiental de la Universidad Manuela Beltrán, en diálogo con ‘CityTv’ es destinar el agua de lluvia recolectada principalmente para actividades de aseo en el hogar.

“El mayor consumo en nuestros hogares, cerca del 58 por ciento, está destinado a este tipo de actividades”, señala la ingeniera. Por lo tanto, es ideal utilizarla para actividades como descargar el baño, lavar patios, baños, limpiar vidrios, entre otras.

¿Cómo se debe recolectar y almacenar esta agua?

La experta explica que depende del sistema que tenga cada hogar. Idealmente, se debe aprovechar la cubierta de la vivienda para direccionar el agua hacia las bajantes y así recolectarla. En caso de no contar con un sistema implementado, se puede recoger el agua con baldes, procurando taparlos adecuadamente para evitar la proliferación de vectores que podrían contaminar el agua. Uno de los mitos más comunes es el de hervir el agua de lluvia para hacerla apta para el consumo humano. Sin embargo, la ingeniera advierte que este método no garantiza su seguridad.

“El agua para ser consumible debe ser potable o segura”, afirma. El proceso de hervido no es suficiente para eliminar posibles contaminantes, por lo que es recomendable no consumirla, especialmente si se desconoce el proceso de recolección y almacenamiento. Otro punto importante es evitar utilizar el agua de lluvia para lavar alimentos, ya que podría estar contaminada por el contacto con elementos del techo o las bajantes. “Es ideal que no se utilice para este fin debido a las posibles condiciones de contaminación”, advierte la experta. Ante estas recomendaciones, es fundamental que los ciudadanos que optan por recolectar agua de lluvia en sus hogares tomen en cuenta estas precauciones para garantizar su seguridad y la de sus familias.
