Scottish health secretary fails to see the funny side after he takes a tumble off his scooter

Humza Yousaf was racing along the corridor when he came crashing down from his scooter – STV

The Scottish health secretary failed to see the funny side of his misfortune after taking a tumble as he raced along on his scooter.

A video emerged on Thursday of Humza Yousaf on a knee scooter, a contraption to help him move around with his injured right leg.

A staffer carrying the politician's crutches can be seen struggling to keep up with the speeding Scottish National Party (SNP) MSP as he hurtles up a corridor within Holyrood.

Then, disaster strikes.

Mr Yousaf's left foot dangles in front of the wheel of the scooter, causing him to flip forwards and crash to the floor.

After the clip was shared on social media, hundreds of people poked fun at the MSP for Glasgow Pollok.

But the man himself was not on board with their sense humour.

He said: “All for media scrutiny and never shy away from it.

“Just not sure there is need or purpose to tweet out a video of me falling over while injured.

“If anyone else had fallen over while on crutches, a knee scooter, or in a wheelchair would your first instinct be to film it and tweet out?”

Eagled-eyed social media users pointed out, however, that Mr Yousaf was less sympathetic to his colleague Douglas Ross in 2018.

As he was officiating in the Scottish Cup final in 2018, Mr Ross fell over.

Humza Yousaf said on Sep 1 that he had ruptured his achilles playing badminton.

In a tweet, he said: “Frustrated not to be in Parliament today but on Monday while playing badminton felt pressure on my ankle, followed by a pop & then collapsed.

“Went to fracture clinic today, they confirmed I have ruptured my achilles. Thanks to our brilliant NHS staff who took good care of me.”
