Millie Bobby Brown has given Stranger Things fans a hint of what’s to come in the upcoming fifth season of the hit Netflix show – while promising viewers an ‘unbelievable’ storyline.
The 20-year-old actress, who has played the role of Eleven since she was 12, is currently filming the fifth instalment alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Noah Schnapp, and admitted it’s ‘nice to be back with everyone.’
Millie is currently on the promotional trial for her new movie Damsel and left fans baffled with her accent during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday evening, as viewers claimed she was switching between a British and American accent.
During her appearance on Today on Friday morning, Millie spoke with a mixed accent yet again as she chatted to Hoda Kotb about the fifth season of Stranger Things where she revealed: ‘We’re filming right now. It is our last season so we’re really excited to be back together again for one last hoorah.

‘But it does feel sad,’ she continued. ‘Every day we go on to set, we’re like, it is the last second day, the last third day. But we’re definitely embracing it all. It is nice to be back with everyone and, of course, yeah, the story is unbelievable.’
Her comments about the upcoming final season come a few months after she was slammed by Stranger Things fans after she told Glamour magazine that she was ready to say goodbye to the series as it is preventing her from taking on other projects.
During the interview, which was published in October 2023, she said: ‘When you’re ready, you’re like, “All right, let’s do this. Let’s tackle this last senior year. Let’s get out of here”.’
She went on to explain that shooting for the show is lengthy: ‘Stranger Things takes up a lot of time to film and it’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about. So I’m ready to say, “Thank you, and goodbye”.’
Millie also said that she’s ready to leave the show that shot her to stardom because it’s given her ‘the tools and the resources to be a better actor,’ and bluntly added that she won’t be sad when it’s over because no one is dying: ‘When it ends, I’m going to be able to still see these people.’
As well as a backlash from fans, an insider exclusively told DailyMail.com that Stranger Things crew had been left ‘disappointed’ with her lack of ‘respect’.

Millie’s blunt remarks reportedly irked those who work behind-the-scenes on the hit show, and reportedly felt that she should ‘respect’ the series that has ‘made her career’.
‘Don’t be surprised if we hear from Millie in the near future bringing back her comments a little bit, because although they were her true thoughts, she now sees how it looks,’ a source told DailyMail.com.
‘Lots of people who work on the show, within the crew, are disappointed in her words coming out the way they did and feel she should respect the hard work so many have done for a show that made her career and pays her bills.’
The insider continued: ‘They all love her, and these comments won’t put a bad taste in their mouths for too long, because by the time they start filming and finish the show, this will be long in the rearview.
‘But the comments have definitely hit a nerve for those who need a job like Stranger Things to make ends meet. It’s just seen as a bad look from many who work on the show.’
Millie was called out by fans for speaking in an American accent as she appeared on Jimmy Fallon on Thursday
Stranger Things season five is expected to be released in 2025.
However, before then, Milly is busy promoting another project – her movie Damsel.
On Thursday night, she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to chat about the movie, however viewers were unable to focus so much on what she was saying about the flick but rather the way in which she was saying it.
Within minutes of her appearance, social media had been flooded with messages from viewers questioning why Milly no longer speaks with a British accent.
‘Where is your British accent?’ asked one, as another wrote: ‘Her accent is basically gone’ and ‘8AM?? She doesn’t sound British at all anymore!!’
Can’t decide if she’s British or American,’ one other chimed in.
Although Milly spent much of her childhood in Europe, having been born in Spain to British parents, who moved her back to the UK when she was four. She then relocated to Florida when she was just eight years old – and began pursuing roles in front of the camera.
