NJ residents preparing to get several inches of snow

NEW JERSEY(PIX11) — Start your engines, because after a two-year hiatus, big snow totals are returning to northern New Jersey. The snow will arrive overnight Monday into Tuesday, just in time for what is set to be a messy morning commute.

Mike is a plow truck driver, getting ready for what he expects will be a 16-hour shift. PIX11 News met him and his wife Monday at the Home Depot in Mahwah, where they picked up a new snowblower.

This and other surrounding communities north and west of the city are expected to get hit the hardest, with up to a foot of snow in the forecast.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco urged businesses to delay opening Tuesday and drivers to either take mass transit or work from home.

His management team spent Monday hashing out a game plan; it will be all hands on deck.

“If everybody’s on the road, our plow trucks get stuck behind the cars. We can’t push. We can’t salt. We have about 125 plow operators. We have 100 pieces of equipment,” said Tedesco.

Having the right gear, and the right attitude; it’s a priority out on the roads and at home.

Rose Marie was getting ready to offer a helping hand to her daughter while keeping a positive attitude for the rest of us who aren’t exactly looking forward to the incoming snowstorm.

“It’s going to go fast. Spring is coming! C’mon! Mr. Groundhog said spring is coming early. But I did go out and buy bread and milk,” said Rose Marie.

PIX11 News was given the opportunity to listen in to a portion of Tedesco’s strategy meeting. He later offered up a good tip for the storm. He said because there is a rain-snow mix in the forecast, he advises to hold off on laying down salt in advance and try to wait until it’s all snow because it will all wash away, along with the money you spent on it.
