Lidl has revealed fresh plans to open 12 new stores across the UK – and has released an updated list of the locations they have set their sights on.
The supermarket chain has confirmed reports that it is seeking £91 million in funding from investment partners to support its plans to build more stores across the nation.
Lidl wants the investors to build the 12 new supermarkets, which it will then rent from them – only 20% of its 960 UK stores are currently leasehold.
The German supermarket wants its new shops to come with a 25-year lease, which will then be subject to rent reviews every five years, based on open market values.
In a pitch reviewed by The Sun, the 12 locations Lidl is looking to open new supermarkets in are revealed.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: ‘We have long taken a flexible approach to delivering new sites with the core aim of giving all households access to a Lidl store.’
It comes after Lidl previously revealed its hopes to open 150 more shops across the UK by 2025 – with plans to increase the number to 1,100 stores.
The discount supermarket is currently the sixth largest chain in the country, with more than 950 stores open in the UK – including ten in Cambridgeshire alone.
In 2022, it opened 50 new shops and has cut the ribbon on 15 more in just the last three months.
In an earlier update last year, in April, Lidl said it was looking for ‘prominent locations’ with ‘strong pedestrian or traffic flow’ measuring more than 1.5 acres for standalone shops and up to four acres for mixed-use sites.
Each location should be able to accommodate 18,000 and 26,500 sq ft and 100 dedicated car parking spaces.
The chain said it is targeting town centre, or edge of centre locations, and are particularly focused on building in retail parks, as well as metropolitan shops in London and M25.

It comes after it was reported a record number of new Asda convenience stores will be opening across the UK as the supermarket chain announces it is converting former Co-op and EG group sites.
Asda will convert 109 of the former shops into its Express stores, along with another in Birmingham.
The chain has already opened 13 of the new shops this month and another 12 opened on February 7.
This marks a milestone for the supermarket as it hits 1,000 UK stores, having already switched 259 shops, and is a step towards its goal to become the second largest grocery retailer in the UK.
Asda plans to convert 470 of the EG and Co-op sites by the end of March and already had eight standalone Asda Express sites already open.
