DeChambeau slam dunk at Masters contest

And there was no shortage of legends, children, aces and fun at one of the Masters tournament’s greatest traditions. That’s the Par 3 contest. Nine US correspondent Jono Kearsley is there at Augusta National. Hello, Jono. It’s a it’s a good time to unwind, relax with that lovely music, and take some pressure off before the most high profile event in golf. Do you feel soothed? Do you feel relaxed, Alex, the pressure certainly starting to build here at Augusta. It’s looking pristine and it’s looked magnificent today for this par three tournament, as you mentioned, a chance for the players. To unwind, to relax, to enjoy themselves before round one. The real event starts tomorrow. A great chance too, to create some precious moments for their families with their girlfriends, partners and particularly their children, giving them memories that they will be reminded of for years to come. Decked out in those adorable little white caddy outfits, their surnames plastered on the backs of themselves, some even getting a chance to grasp a putter on this par three tournament as the crowds, the patrons here. Certainly entertained. And they were entertained not just because of the fun the players were having with their partners and their children, but also. Holes in one. That’s what this par three tournament brings today. It brought four of them, Gary Woodland, Sep Stracker, Lucas Glover and Victor Hovind all managing to nail an ace on this 9 hole par three tournament that was eventually won by Ricky Fowler. But let’s give you a little bit of a stat on that. Ricky Fowler might be the winner. Nobody has ever won this tournament and then gone on to win the Masters and while we’re talking about great shots, Bryce and Deshambo. Extraordinary. He sunk his first shot on the day just behind me here, straight into the drink. Took his third flush straight into the hole. Didn’t the crowd go absolutely wild? Look at those scenes. You can see. There it is. Quite simply, phenomenal. So now with this par three tournament done, it is over to the main event, The Masters tomorrow starts here at Augusta. 6 Australians competing this year. Australia is the highest represented nation outside of the United States and it’s a big Australian to watch out for. Cameron Smith, Min Woo Lee, they are all fire. We can stop now. Went longer than the first round. Well done. I know how much you love golf. I know how much you love the National, my friend. But we gotta go, my man. OK. We’re watching the coverage. Yeah. No, no. 9 Networks coverage starts on James tomorrow morning. Good man. Good man. I love you, you know? I love you. He loves it. I love him. Well done, Johnny.
