DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will no longer vie for the presidential post as she will seek reelection in the 2022 elections, her spokesman said on Thursday.
Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco confirmed that Duterte-Carpio and her brother, Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, will both seek reelection next year.
“Yes, this is confirmed. According to Mayor Sara, she will run for reelection as Davao City Mayor and incumbent Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte will run for reelection,” Frasco told The Manila Times in a text message.
Duterte-Carpio has announced her support for her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, after he accepted the endorsement of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan to be its vice presidential candidate, with Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as the party’s standard bearer, in next year’s polls.
In a previous interview, the mayor said she and her father had agreed that only one of them can run for a national post in next year’s elections.
“Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022,” Duterte-Carpio said.
But she maintained that her relationship with her father will remain “the same as it was before.”
“Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan (Politics is separate from family. Nothing personal),” she said.
