The co-owner of the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi, Parth Jindal, explained his viral reactions to Saju Samson’s dismissal during their IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan on Tuesday, May 7. Video clips of Parth Jindal’s animated gesture from the stands of the Arun Jaitley Stadium were widely shared on social media with a section of fans questioning his passionate outburst of emotions.
“Was lovely interacting with Manoj and Sanju – was incredible to witness his power hitting at the Kotla – he got us all extremely worried and hence the animated reaction when he was out! Had the pleasure of congratulating him as well. Great win by our boys!” Parth Jindal said in a social media post on Wednesday.Â
Parth Jindal was punching the air and seemingly saying ‘Out Hai’ after Sanju Samson was adjudged out in a debatable manner in the 16th over of a tense Rajasthan chase of 222. Samson was arguing with the umpire, expressing his disappointment over third umpire Michael Gough’s decision to give him out after Shai Hope tip-toed along the boundary line before completing a catch. The Rajasthan captain was dismissed for 86 off 46 and the visiting team collapsed after his wicket.Â

Parth Jindal and Sanju Samson met and greeted each other after the intense contest. The Delhi co-owner was seen smiling and shaking hands with the Rajasthan captain and their owner, Manoj Badale at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.Â
Third umpire Michael Gough’s decision divided social media as quite a few questioned the validity of Shai Hope’s catch. Gough was questioned as to why he did not take more time before arriving at his decision as one only angle of the replay was checked before the third umpire gave Samson out.Â
Former England all-rounder, Paul Collingwood, who was one of the finest fielders of his era, said he had no doubt about the validity of the catch but that his good friend Gough should have seen a few more angles before giving Samson out.Â
“Goughy (Michael Gough) is a very good friend of mine. So I am going to defend him (chuckles). Maybe he could have given himself another angle, just to double-check. Because it was so, so close. Those decisions and those moments make a huge difference. So maybe he could have given himself a little bit more time,” Collingwood told Star Sports.Â
Rajasthan went from 162 for 3 to 201 for 8 as they lost the crunch game by 20 runs and missed out on an opportunity to become the first team to quality for the playoffs.Â
On the other hand, Delhi kept their playoffs hopes alive. Rishabh Pant’s men moved to the 5th spot in the points table, taking their points tally to 12 from as many matches.Â
