House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte lawmaker Sandro Marcos called on his party-mates in the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) to prepare for the 2025 midterm polls by fielding a 12-strong Senate slate.

The Ilocos Norte lawmaker, son of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., made the call during the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) National Directorate meeting held in Malacañang last January 12.

“We all have to work double-time,” Marcos said in a statement.

“Let’s take it all upon ourselves to take the initiative not just in ensuring the internal affairs of the party are in order; we need to make our presence felt,” Congressman Marcos added.

The younger Marcos, during the same gathering, said it was important to field a 12-strong Senate slate that would share the Marcos administration’s ideals.

PFP President and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, for his part, accepted Rep. Marcos’ challenge and vowed to form a winning slate.

PFP Secretary General Thompson Lantion, PFP General Counsel and lawyer George Briones, as well as key PFP Representatives Richard Gomez of Leyte, Florida Robes of San Jose del Monte City, Primicias Aggabas of Pangasinan, Isidro Lumayag of South Catabato, Teody Tarriela of Occidental Mindoro, other delegates from Regions 1 to 13 and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Cordillera Administrative Region, attended the PFP meeting.

The meeting, according to the PFP statement, was facilitated by the Office of Special Assistant to the President and PFP Executive Vice President Anton Lagdameo.

President Marcos was the PFP’s standard bearer during the 2022 presidential polls, but the PFP did not field a Senate slate.

Congressman Marcos joined the PFP in August 2023.

PFP Secretary General Tamayo said 23 of the country’s governors were PFP members, including Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) President and Quirino Governor Dakila Cua.

“Now, more than ever, the PFP needs to prove that it is and will always be an invaluable extension of the Marcos administration as it builds a culture of unity, peace, and prosperity toward an inclusive and sustainable Bagong Pilipinas,” Tamayo said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
