NZ vs AUS 1st Test: In-Form Kane Williamson Gets Out On Duck After Horrible Run-Out | WATCH

Australia are up against New Zealand in the 1st New Zealand vs Australia Test match of the two-match test series in Wellington. After conceding 383 runs in the first innings, New Zealand are in a spot of bother as they have lost half their side before tea on day 2. However, what grabbed the attention of many was the run-out of the in-form Kane Williamson for a duck, following a disastrous mix-up at the mid-pitch with his teammate and fellow batter Will Young.

With New Zealand at 12-1, the incident took place on the final delivery of the fifth over. Australia’s pace spearhead, Mitchell Starc, bowled a full delivery to Williamson, who then drove it directly towards the mid-off region. The former New Zealand Test captain initiated a single and shifted to his right to manoeuvre around the bowler, Starc, but unexpectedly, Young moved to his left, colliding with his batting partner. This collision disrupted Williamson’s balance, leaving him scrambling to reach the other end.

Marnus Labuschagne quickly gathered the ball and, with a precise throw, hit the stumps on the non-striker’s end, leaving Williamson stranded in the middle of the pitch in despair.

Williamson came into this Test in exceptional form at home, boasting five centuries in his last six innings with scores of 133*, 43, 109, 118, 215, and 121*.

Cameron Green-Josh Hazlewood’s Record Partnership

At the start of the day 2, Australia, resuming from the overnight score of 279-9, added 104 more runs, thanks to Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood. The pair etched their names in cricket history by forming the highest 10th wicket partnership against New Zealand in Test cricket. The duo’s partnership of 116 runs not only surpassed the previous record of 114 runs set by Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath in Brisbane back in 2004 but also propelled Australia to a commanding position in the match. Green achieved his second Test century with a stunning 174* to his name.
