The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said that Team India will be a strong contender to win the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
India will be opening their campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24 before taking on New Zealand (Oct. 31), Afghanistan (November 3), Scotland (Nov. 5) and a qualifier in the Super 12s.
The Men in Blue will be fighting to win their second T20 World Cup title after 2007, which they had clinched under MS Dhoni, who is mentoring Virat Kohli’s team in this edition.
“India has got so much talent so we will always be a contender. We have as much a chance of winning this World Cup as we had in the first.
“In the 2019 World Cup we lost in the semis so we have to win the big matches to win the World Cup. We are hopeful but you can’t say anything, especially in T20 cricket.
There is so little time in a match but yes, India will be a contender,” Sourav Ganguly said on Salaam Cricket 2021.
India are heading into the T20 World Cup as one of the favourites to win the title, which they had first clinched under MS Dhoni, who is mentoring Kohli’s side in this edition.
India warmed up for the tournament with two comprehensive wins over England and Australia in the warm-up matches in Dubai. India have been drawn alongside Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand and two qualifiers in Group 2.
