Maailman viinintuotanto laski kymmenen prosenttia viime vuonna. Kyseessä on suurin tuotannon lasku yli kuuteen vuosikymmeneen, kertoi kansainvälistä viinikauppaa valvova OIV-järjestö, joka kattaa liki 50 viinintuottajamaata.

Suurin syy surkeaan viinivuoteen löytyy äärimmäisistä sääilmiöistä, kuten kuivuudesta, maastopaloista ja tulvista.

Tuottajamaista pahiten kärsivät Italia ja Australia, jotka menettivät noin neljänneksen tuotannostaan. Espanjan tuotannosta hävisi viidennes ja Chilen sekä Etelä-Afrikan viinituotanto laski yli kymmenen prosenttia.

Lisää päänsärkyä viinintuottajille toivat kuluttajat, jotka kuluttivat viime vuonna kolme prosenttia vähemmän viiniä. Viinin kulutus vajosi viime vuonna alimmalle tasolleen sitten vuoden 1996.

Eniten viiniä asukasta kohti juotiin viime vuonna Portugalissa, Ranskassa ja Italiassa.
