New Front Lines? NATO Nations Building Hundreds of Bunkers on Russian Border to Prepare for Putin Aggression

Fearing a Russian attack, three NATO nations are planning to build bunkers along the border with the country.

Countries in Europe have also been urged to ramp up weapon stocks to “war-time levels” as fears that Russia President Vladimir Putin will expand his attack beyond Ukraine’s borders, Knewz.com has learned.

According to The U.S. Sun, the defense ministers of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have begun preparations for bunkers in the case of an attack.

Newsweek reports that the three countries plan to build 600 bunkers in order to protect some 210 miles of border with Russia.

“The war in Ukraine has shown that taking back already conquered territories is extremely difficult and comes at great cost of human lives, time and material resources,” Susan Lilleväli, the undersecretary for defense readiness at the Estonian Defense Ministry, said.

Lilleväli made the comments while speaking about the $64.7 million project on Thursday, February 8.

“In addition to equipment, ammunition and manpower, we need physical installations to defend our countries efficiently,” Lilleväli said.

The three small Baltic states have long been expected to be Putin’s next targets if he expands the war beyond Ukraine. Such an attack could spark World War III because of NATO’s agreement to protect one another if one country is attacked.

The bunkers are meant to avoid a confrontation with Russia, which is closing in on its two-year anniversary of when it first attacked Ukraine.

Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary general of NATO, has urged European countries to ramp up their weapons in case some sort of further war breaks out. By: MEGA

“These installations serve, first, the purpose of avoiding military conflict in our region, as they could potentially change the enemy’s calculus,” Lilleväli said.

“Counter-mobility and fortification measures have played a significant role in wars in our region in history, for example in Finland, and as the war in Ukraine has demonstrated they are perfectly valid also in this century.”

Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary general of NATO, has urged European countries to ramp up their weapons in case some sort of further war breaks out.

“We need to reconstitute and expand our industrial base to increase deliveries to Ukraine and refill weapons stocks,” Stoltenberg said.

“If Putin wins in Ukraine, there is no guarantee that Russian aggression will not spread further,” he told Germany’s Welt am Sonntag.

“Supporting Ukraine now and investing in NATO’s own capabilities is our best defense.”

Former President Donald Trump said he’d let Russia do

The 2024 United States presidential election will likely play a role in how Russia acts.

As Knewz.com reported on Monday, February 12, Republican candidate Donald Trump created a stir when he said that he’d let Russia “do whatever the hell they want” to NATO nations not paying their fair share to be part of the alliance.

So far, the Russian government is not commenting on Trump’s words.

“I am still [Vladimir] Putin’s press secretary, but not Trump’s,” CNBC and Reuters quoted spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying Monday, February 12.

But Peskov’s words were part of a story by the Russian government’s Tass news service about what Trump said during a campaign rally.

Putin turned aside most questions about former President Trump and NATO during a two-hour questioning by Tucker Carlson in recent days.

But Trump’s comment during an appearance in South Carolina Saturday, February 10 went all the way to the top of the military alliance.

“Any suggestion that allies will not defend each other undermines all of our security, including that of the U.S., and puts American and European soldiers at increased risk,” a statement from Stoltenberg to the Associated Press said.

As Knewz.com reported on January 15, NATO announced it was deploying 90,000 troops in order to deter Putin from further attacks in Europe.
