Russia-Ukraine War: Russian drones injure 6 in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Dnipro regions | Oneindia
Russian forces carried out an overnight drone attack on Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Denapo regions, causing injuries to at least six individuals and causing damage to critical infrastructure as well as commercial and residential buildings, according to regional officials. On Saturday, the Ukrainian efforts reported that Russian forces deployed 13 Shahid drones targeting these regions in the northeast and center of the country. The air defence unit successfully intercepted and downed all the drones, as confirmed by the Air Force commander. However, debris from the downed drones struck civilian targets in Kharki, resulting in injuries to four people and igniting the fire in an office building as stated by the regional governor. Olesh Sinehbov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said a 13 year old child and a woman were being treated in hospital. Two other women were treated on site. Emergency services were bringing the fire under control, he added. In the industrial Denis pro Petrovsk region, two people were wounded, said Serhi Lisak, the regional governor. He said a critical infrastructure facility and three houses were damaged over the weekend. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that its air defence forces had intercepted and shot down four US produced long range missiles over the Crimea peninsula. These missiles identified as Army tactical missile systems who recently supplied to Ukraine by Washington. The ministry provided no further details regarding the incident. Earlier in the week, Russian officials alleged that Ukraine had launched ATA CMS missiles at Crimea in an effort to breach Russian air defenses on the annexed peninsula. However, they claimed that six of these missiles had been successfully intercepted. Last month, a US official in Washington revealed that the United States had clandestinely delivered long range missiles to Ukraine. In recent weeks the ATA CMS missiles, posting a range of up to 300 kilometers, were reportedly employed for the first time. In April 17th they were launched against a Russian airfield in Crimea, located approximately 165 kilometers from the Ukrainian front lines. According to the official, initially the Pentagon had reservations about deploying these long range missiles, fearing that their removal from the American arsenal would diminish U.S. military preparedness. There were additional concerns that Ukraine might utilize these missiles to target vacations deep within Russia, potentially escalating the conflict towards a direct confrontation between Russia and the US. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, with its Black Sea Fleet being stationed on the peninsula. In a separate development, on Thursday, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron pledged €3 billion in annual military assistance to Ukraine for an indefinite period. He also stated that London had no objections to Ukrainian weapons being deployed within Russia. This chance elicited a strong condemnation from Moscow.
