Ruben Dias plots Man City reaction at Liverpool FC after PSG setback

Manchester City players were frustrated after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, but are already plotting a response at Liverpool on Sunday.

That is according to Ruben Dias, who admitted City simply didn’t take their chances against PSG as Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi scored in either half to earn three points in the Champions League Group A.

However, after a morale-boosting win at Chelsea at the weekend, Dias believes the PSG result will have no bearing on City’s chances at Liverpool on Sunday.

“Essentially, it’s a frustrating night for us,” he said after the game.

“I’m still fresh, but the team was there. We created chances. The team played good against a tough opponent. Two top teams playing against each other, will always be chances with both sides. Essentially It was a matter of us not finishing what we created.

“It affects nothing [ahead of Liverpool], especially we know what we’re capable of, we know our identity and we know what we need to do at Anfield to win. Obviously it’s a loss and we’re frustrating but that’s the good habits of being a top team. We’ll take it but in no time we’ll be back again.”

“We’re disappointed because we demand everything we can from ourselves, individually, collectively. If we don’t take a win we’ll never be satisfied even if we made a good game or we were game. We need to do our game because it’s what we believe in and what we believe that will allow us to be closer to win.

“The ultimate instance is what matters is winning, that’s what we want. So even though many good things to take we go home upset because we like only one thing that is to win.

“We know the team was there, the team performed and we created the chances, we didn’t finish them and a game like this that has a huge impact. One goal might have changed it all. Essentially we have the best example, last year’s game when we scored everything changed. we know that, we tried our best. Today was not our day. We take the good, we take the bad, and we will get better.”

And Dias was confident that City can respond to the setback against PSG to still have a good chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

First, though, Dias insisted City’s minds are already firmly on Liverpool

He said: “We need to win, we can win every single game we just need to do it. That’s the big difference between thinking about it and doing it.

“Now the major focus is on Sunday’s game at Anfield and that’s where all our energy will be.”
