The prognosis for someone with prostate cancer depends primarily on the results of a biopsy. For men with low grade cancer localized to only the prostate gland, the prognosis is usually very good, with no change in life expectancy. In fact, many of these men never need surgery or other treatment for prostate cancer. The prognosis for a man who has a biopsy that shows features of a more aggressive cancer depends on multiple other factors, such as whether cancer has already spread.

The 5 year survival rate for individuals with prostate cancer is ninety eight %. The 10 year survival rate is ninety eight %. Many prostate cancers (eighty nine %) are found once the condition is in just close by organs as well as the prostate. This is described as the regional or local stage.
