Rochelle 'wouldn't know what to do' if daughter has asthma attack

Rochelle Humes has revealed her youngest daughter Valentina, four, has asthma. 

The presenter, 32, said she wouldn’t know what to do if her daughter started having an attack as she discussed the medical condition during a segment on This Morning on Monday.

Mother-of-three Rochelle said: ‘We know asthma is a common condition. It’s funny because my little one has asthma but I actually don’t really know what I would do if she has a full on asthma attack, which is crazy because she’s my child.’

The expert said it was incredible important for parents to have an emergency plan in place, so they would know the right actions to take. 

Rochelle, who is also proud mum to Alaia-Mai, eight, and son Blake, went on: ‘I was given a pump and it looked very similar to that, when she has a cold, she will sound a little bit barky during the night.

‘But she’s never had a full on episode so I wouldn’t know what to do.’

To which the doctor replied: ‘It’s a medical emergency, it kills people every day in the UK, call 999. Take this blue inhaler and give it to them. 

‘Put their head up like this and direct it down to open the airway. 1 in 3 people die every day from asthma.

‘Cold air can be a trigger so wearing a scarf can help, dust in the home, pollution, central heating makes the air very dry.

Holly’s co-host Phillip Schofield was quick to explain that Holly, 40, will be missing for two weeks as she films Wim ‘Iceman’ Hof’s Superstar Survival with Lee Mack.

Rochelle explained: ‘I’ve come here to hang out and keep her seat warm’ as Phillip, 59, revealed the Saturdays star will fill in for Holly for the entire fortnight. 

‘Very busy show for you today. Rochelle is here, as you can see, keeping Holly’s seat warm,’ explained Phillip.

‘She’s off with the iceman. She’s making a show away at the moment. She’s off for two weeks,’ he added.

Although Holly won’t be back on the This Morning sofa until February, she will fly in from Southern Europe – where Superstar Survival is filmed – every weekend to present Dancing On Ice alongside Phillip.

The Sun confirmed earlier in January that Holly had been granted two and a half weeks off from This Morning to co-host the new BBC show.

WHAT IS ASTHMA? 

Asthma is a common but incurable condition which affects the small tubes inside the lungs.

It can cause them to become inflamed, or swollen, which restricts the airways and makes it harder to breathe.

The condition affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood. Symptoms may improve or even go away as children grow older, but can return in adulthood.

Symptoms include wheezing, breathlessness, a tight chest and coughing, and these may get worse during an asthma attack.

Treatment usually involves medication which is inhaled to calm down the lungs.

Triggers for the condition include allergies, dust, air pollution, exercise and infections such as cold or flu.

If you think you or your child has asthma you should visit a doctor, because it can develop into more serious complications like fatigue or lung infections.
