Robin Koch says Jesse Marsch’s communication skills is one of his biggest strengths. Marsch is now underway in his first full season in charge of Leeds United having been appointed in February.

The Whites centre-back says Marsch is always speaking to his players, and the pair shared a joke when Freiburg – Koch’s former club – and RB Leipzig – Marsch’s old side – met in the German Cup final last season.

“The coach is very communicative,” Koch told Bild. “He listens to the team and wants to know how we feel.

“The cooperation is very close. We also joked briefly once when the Freiburg-Leipzig cup final was coming up: My ex-club against his ex-club, so we were of course in different camps.”

Marsch has recruited seven players this summer to bolster the squad, and one of them is midfielder Marc Roca. At the time Koch swapped the Bundesliga for the Premier League, Roca moved to Germany – completing a transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020.

He struggled for regular playing time, making just 24 appearances across two seasons. Koch believes Roca has the quality and the fight to adapt well to English football.

“He’s a fine technician, but he also has the gene to want to fight for every ball,” said Koch.

“Marc is not only a technician, but also a fighter who fits into the Premier League. He also speaks very good German. I told him to keep it that way! It’s just important for him to get minutes now.”
