Road collision sees Conor McGregor change training for Michael Chandler fight

Conor McGregor has revealed that he has not been back out cycling since being knocked off his bike by a car early last year.
The MMA star escaped with minor injuries after a car hit his bike in January 2023 when he was out cycling near his home in Co Kildare.
McGregor said at the time that he ‘got away with his life’ after the car ploughed into him as he cycled in the countryside.
Sharing a photo and two videos on Instagram last year, McGregor wrote: “Got a bang of a car just now from behind. A sun trap, the driver couldn’t see me. Full speed straight thru me. Thank you God, it wasn’t my time. Thank you wrestling and judo also. Having an awareness on the landing saved my life.”
In one of the videos, the former two-weight champion could be heard saying: “All good mate, don’t worry about it. That’s nasty, I could have been dead there. Jesus Christ.. I got away with my life there, boys.”
He later added in a clip with the driver of the car: “I’m here with Mick… Mick smacked me with his car.
“We’ve got the bike in the back, it wasn’t our time, Mick, that’s all. God bless, and we’re f***in’ still here, thank God. That’s all that matters.”
McGregor later shared a picture of his injuries which showed a large cut, as he captioned the image with a gorilla emoji.
But the UFC star has revealed that he has not been out cycling since, something he did to and from training in California ahead of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in 2021.
He posted on his Instagram story this week: “Still haven’t gone back out on my bike after this.”
It remains unclear if McGregor will move his training camp abroad ahead of his June 29 bout with Michael Chandler, but all of his preparations for the fight so far have taking place in Ireland.
However, it looks unlikely that he will be cycling 10 miles to training like he did for the Poirier trilogy fight, which he lost after suffering a horror leg break.
