KUALA LUMPUR: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) will offer students in the October intake at public higher learning institutions (IPTA) over RM35 million worth of loan advance payment (WPP).
The funds will benefit 23,487 students who will pursue their bachelor’s degree at public universities, said PTPTN in a statement today.
“The allocation of RM1,500 for each student is to bear part of their expenses as they prepare to enter the IPTA. This is also to ensure that no student fails to enter higher learning institutions because of financial hardship.
“The WPP is given to Malaysian students who have agreed to accept WPP when they applied for admission to higher learning institutions via UPUOnline or via the IPTA; and that their parents or guardians are Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat recipients and they fulfilled the criteria fixed by PTPTN,” it said.
PTPTPN said the WPP would be valid for two months from Sept 24 until Nov 23.
Students can cash out the WPP at any Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) branches nationwide from Sept 24 by presenting their WPP offer letter and their MyKad.
PTPTN said students can check on the WPP offer from Sept 27 on the PTPTN official portal.
PTPTN chairman Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan had today presented the WPP offer letter to three students at their homes in Kubang Pasu, Kedah.
Since the WPP was introduced in 1999 until July 31 this year, 942,025 students have become its recipients involving funds of RM1.39 billion, he said.
Wan Saiful said 2,343 students in Kedah were recipients with an allocation of RM3.5 million, while RM249,000 will be channeled to 166 students in the Kubang Pasu area.
“This proves that PTPTN plays an important role in assisting parents and students to pursue their studies in IPTA.
“I congratulate and praise these students for successfully entering universities. The WPP that they receive should be used to the best they can.”
“Show your appreciation and gratitude by studying diligently and be an exemplary role to the country,” he said.
PTPTN also said students can submit loan applications online via its portal from now until Sept 30 for the first group, while it is from Oct 1 until Oct 31 for the second group.
This is to enable that the applications are processed, and the required approvals are given, it said.
