treat bank workers with respect, union demands

NUBE claimed some prayer rooms are converted storerooms, creating an inappropriate and potentially unsafe environment for employees.

SHAH ALAM – The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) is urging bank management to show more appreciation for their staff.

NUBE argued that bank employees were the backbone of the industry, ensuring smooth operations and driving profits.

“Bank staff are the lifeblood of these institutions.

“They are the reason for positive customer interactions and the ultimate success of the banks,” NUBE said in a statement today.

The union highlighted recent issues, such as the Aidilfitri financial aid incident and the lack of proper prayer rooms at some branches, as evidence of a disconnect between management and staff.

NUBE claimed some prayer rooms were converted storerooms, creating an inappropriate and potentially unsafe environment for employees.

“Employees have submitted photos of cramped and potentially unsafe prayer spaces, some believed to be converted storerooms.

“Despite significant profits, some banks seem unwilling to provide basic amenities for their staff to perform religious obligations or celebrate cultural festivals comfortably,” NUBE said.

The union also called for a shift in perspective.

“We need to recognise the true contributions of bank employees and move away from outdated narratives.

“It’s time for bank management to show respect and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of their staff,” the union added.
