Resources Minister's comments about gas 'dead right on all counts'
Reading the headlines today, it would be easy to think that the Albanese government had suddenly “seen the light” on gas, says Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“Today, Resources Minister Madeleine King released the federal government’s Future Gas Strategy that, she said, was ‘based on facts and data, not ideology or wishful thinking’,” she said.
“In a powerful op-ed, the minister said:
‘A future made in Australia will need Australian gas. We will need affordable gas to support energy reliability for households and businesses as we move to a more renewable grid.
‘We need gas to support Australian manufacturing … and tens of thousands of jobs … Our region needs our gas to warm homes and cook meals and to power the great cities of Asia.’
Ms Credlin said Ms King’s remarks were “dead right on all counts”.
“But is she speaking for the government, or just for herself? … I doubt it would be entirely shared by her cabinet colleague, the climate evangelist and anti-fossil fuel campaigner Chris Bowen, despite his recent tepid endorsement of gas.”
