Although the 2023-2024 campaign has not gone as planned for Rutgers women’s basketball, they had reason to celebrate on Tuesday night. The Scarlet Knights added another Big Ten victory to their resume with an 81-73 win over Minnesota.
After only scoring eight points in the first quarter, Rutgers took over in the final three frames. They were led by Mya Petticord, who scored a season-high 25 points. She was also deadly from beyond the arc, making four three-pointers. However, she was not the only one who had a big game.
Rutgers star Destiny Adams continued to be a points machine. The Lakehurst, New Jersey native scored 21 points. She has reached the 20-point mark twice in four games this month.
As Rutgers improved to 2-12 in Big Ten play, they capitalized on Minnesota’s mistakes. The Golden Gophers turned the ball over 17 times and committed 25 fouls. Due to their mistakes, Minnesota was unable to mount a comeback.
In this matchup, Rutgers also showed a lot of resilience. Despite a rough first quarter, they found a way to win and get back on track before it was too late. That was partly due to their success from three-point range.
After one of their best wins of the season, Rutgers will shift their focus to Wisconsin. They will face the Badgers on February 17 at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
