The Theological University of Kampen is moving to Utrecht. The university has been in Kampen for more than 160 years, but they prefer a city with a more vibrant student life. This is reported by the NOS.
The relocation of the Reformed theology training is not very surprising. As early as 1992, TU Delft considered leaving Kampen. Students also find the city less and less attractive to study. The last university of applied sciences in Kampen already disappeared when the art academy moved.
Financial issues also play a role with the move. The maintenance and renovation of the old building costs much more than the rent and possible new construction of a building in Utrecht. The TU now also expects many more collaborations with other educational institutions.
In three years
From September next year, the first TU students will start working in Utrecht. The move will not be complete until three years later. In total there will be about 150 students and thirty employees on the Plompetorengracht in Utrecht.
