Relief for TikTok as Biden administration asks judge to put case on hold

The new US government will review the ban on TikTok along with other Trump administration policies taken in relation to China.

“The Biden administration signaled it would slow down an effort to force TikTok to unwind its US operations, asking a federal judge to pause a lawsuit over former President Donald Trump’s ban of the app while the new White House reviews its predecessor’s policies,” according to a Bloomberg report.

Details:

TikTok will be included as part of a wider examination of the US government’s stance on China, the White House said.
Besides TikTok, the Biden administration will be reviewing several of Trump’s other decisions related to China, including the delisting of Chinese companies from US stock markets.

Context:

After being banned by the Trump administration in August last year, TikTok’s parent firm ByteDance challenged the order in a US court in October 2020.
In December that year, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that could ultimately lead to Chinese companies being delisted from US stock exchanges.
