police escort woman off flight from cork for 'screaming abuse' at passengers and crew

‘The Captain came over the intercom and asked the woman to sit down and stop abusing passengers and staff,’ said one passenger.

A woman was escorted off a flight in Manchester on Sunday morning for being “loud and abusive” to passengers and crew onboard, according to witnesses.

The Ryanair flight from Cork arrived in Manchester at 9.30am on Sunday before the disruptive woman was swiftly removed from the plane.

CorkBeo reports that passengers who witnessed the ordeal say they first knew trouble was brewing when they could hear the woman’s voice engaged in a loud argument.

“The Captain came over the intercom and asked the woman to sit down and stop abusing passengers and staff,” said one passenger.

“We got to Manchester, we had to wait for around 25 minutes, the police arrived and they were taking her off, she was still screaming at the air hostess.”

Another passenger who talked to CorkBeo said the Ryanair crew were calm and professional, saying; “she was very loud, she could have been under the influence of something”.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “The crew of this Cork to Manchester flight (11 Feb) requested police assistance after a passenger became disruptive in-flight.

“Local police met the aircraft upon arrival at Manchester and removed this passenger from the aircraft before the rest of the passengers disembarked.”

In the past few years, similar incidents of aggressive disruption to the onboard flight process which force flights to be diverted from their intended destinations have incurred more severe punishments, which in the UK can land you in prison for up to five years.

The disruptive passengers can also be asked to pay the airline the cost of the diversion which can typically range from £10,000-£80,000 (€11,722-€93,781).
