Brian Flores comments on not getting a head coaching interview this offesason
The head coaching cycle in 2024 was a fascinating one for many reasons. A quarter of the NFL has a new head coach and they each had to adhere to the Rooney Rule by interviewing minority head coaches.
What didn’t happen was any team asking to interview Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores for a head coaching job after he was a popular candidate in 2023. In speaking for the first time publically on Tuesday at team OTAs, he commented on his lack of head coaching interviews.
I don’t really have control over that situation,” Flores said. “I will say that I’m very happy where I am. It’s been a great offseason. I haven’t spent this much time with my family in a while.”
Like everyone else in the Vikings organization, Flores gave a very PR-friendly answer that doesn’t really tell you a whole lot. We did get some more information out of him when the Vikings beat followed up by asking about the pending lawsuit he currently has against the league.
“There’s no way to know,” Flores said. “It’s not really something I’m spending a lot of time thinking about. I try to be where my feet are, and that’s here with the Vikings.”
Flores is going into his second year with the Vikings and had one of his more successful coaching performances in elevating a relatively poor Vikings defense to average over the course of 17 games with many performances bordering on elite.
