Recruiting Roundup: Taking A Look At A Busy Recruiting Weekend On Montlake
Recruiting Roundup: Taking A Look At A Busy Recruiting Weekend On Montlake
Happy Sunday Husky fans. This weekend was a big weekend for UW football in the recruiting realm with a handful of official visitors from the high school ranks, and some transfer portal visitors joining them (not to mention a bunch of official visitors). With over 18k fans in the stands and our spring game it was a very good weekend to have recruits on campus. Here is a look at who made their way to Montlake:
4 star wide receiver Donovan Olugbode from IMG Academy headed up to Seattle to check out the Husky program. Rated as the 27th best wide out in the 2025 class Olugbode has offers from around the country, but he is primarily looking at Oregon, Florida, USC, and UW. The Huskies got the first crack at impressing Olugbode who is listed at 6’1” and around 200 pounds. Olugbude has a good frame and projects to be an outside receiver in college.
Also up from Florida was 4 star safety Ladarian Clardy from Escambia HS, FL. New safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri has been putting in a ton of effort to get Clardy out to Seattle and it paid off with an official visit. Rated as the 16th best safety in the 2025 class, Clardy is also looking at Ole Miss, UCF, and Vanderbilt (he was also offered by Georgia recently). Listed at 6’0” and around 175 pounds, Clardy is a ballhawk on the back end of the defense.
Also making his way from the eastern side of the US was 4 star edge CJ May from Highland Home HS, AL. May, who is rated as the 16th best edge in the country, holds offers from the likes of Louisville, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. The Husky staff were able to get him on campus for his first official visit and they would love to add a player of his caliber on the edge (he’s listed at 6’4” and around 225 pounds currently).
4 star offensive lineman Douglas Utu from Bishop Gorman headed up to Montlake this weekend. Rated as the 4th best interior offensive lineman in country, Utu holds offers from most of the major programs around the country. So far UW is the only school to set up an official visit with him, and the Huskies appear to be doing very well with him. Utu already has good size and it’s likely he would be able to come in and compete for a starting spot right away in 2025 if he came to Montlake.
Also, on the offensive line 4 star offensive lineman Champ Taulealea from Valley Christian HS, CA was in town for an official visit. Rated as the 14th best interior offensive lineman in the country, Taulealea is a beast of an offensive lineman (when he gets his hands on you it’s over). Listed at 6’4” and around 330 pounds, Taulealea projects inside at the next level. The Huskies are battling Cal, and Usc for his commitment it looks like.
4 star tight end Vander Ploog from Troy HS, CA who I recently did a Q&A with was another 4 star prospect in town for an official visit. Ploog, who is rated as the 14th best tight end in the country, is an intriguing tight end who is just scratching the surface of how good he can be. Listed at 6’6” and around 210 pounds he still has room to add bulk to his frame and he has all the tools to be an impact player college. The Huskies are battling Utah, ASU, and Cal for his commitment.
3 star quarterback Treston Kini McMillan from Mililani HS, HI was on campus as well this weekend. Rated as the 39th best quarterback in the country, McMillan (who was the Gatorade state player of the year) is heavily interested in the Husky program. Listed at 5’10” and around 210 Pounds, McMillan is an under-rated QB who could be a steal if the Huskies are able to land him. It looks like the Huskies would like to add 2 QB’s in the 2025 class (If they could get McMillan he would join current Husky QB commit Dash Beierly).
A few guys also made their way from the transfer portal and the Huskies are looking in a very good spot to land them. Here is a look at some of the transfers on campus:
Defensive back Cameron Broussard from Sac State is a vert intriguing player who headed up to Montlake. The Huskies were able to get a visit from Broussard who also has visited Michigan and Ohio State. Also on campus from Sac State was defensive lineman DeShawn Lynch who played on the outside/inside last year. Both players would compete for playing time right away if they made their way to Montlake.
Tailback Jordan Washington who enrolled at Arizona recently, headed to portal and it appears he is headed to Montlake to follow tailback coach Scottie Graham. Washington is an electric back who had the 2nd best 100 time last year in the state of California. Another transfer from Arizona was on campus this weekend. Wide Receiver Kevin Green Jr is a wide receiver that Jedd Fisch and wide receiver coach Kevin Cummings have like for a while.
Rounding out the transfer visitors were tight end Keleki Latu from Nevada (and brother of former Husky Laiatu Latu and linebacker Hayden Moore from Michigan.
Most of the transfer portal players appear to be leaning to becoming Huskies and we should hear some news soon about a few of these players.
That is all for today and keep your eye out for some commitments from some of the players that visited. As always follow me @asieverkropp.
