Former US Army general David Petraeus has provided his outlook on the world, which is facing a “greater number” and a “more complex array” of challenges in 2024.
He was formerly the International Security Assistance Force commander and Central Intelligence Agency director.
“If you think of the US … as the guy in the circus who has to keep a lot of different plates spinning, there are more plates in that tent that we have to keep spinning, so there’s a greater number of them,” General Petraeus told Sky News host Erin Molan.
“There are obviously all the challenges that we see now in the greater Middle East – Israel, of course, attempting to destroy Hamas, something I believe does need to be done; the Houthis, the Iranian-supported Shia element in Yemen that is disrupting maritime traffic – 15 per cent of the world’s maritime trade goes through the Red Sea.
The world is facing a ‘greater number of challenges’: Former CIA director
“What you have is, again, a greater number of challenges and a more complex array of challenges.”
