Smartphone maker Realme is planning to venture into more than 15 new product categories in 2022, as the fast-growing Chinese company increases focus on its non-handset business in India, a top executive said.
The company is also aiming to become a leader in the 5G handset space and will launch only smartphones supporting the new technology in the ₹15,000 and above categories. It cautioned that the supply chain issues, which have led to price increases, will likely ease only after the second quarter of 2022.
“In 2022, we aim to become a leader and democratiser of 5G. Therefore, all new Realme products above ₹15,000 will be 5G-enabled,” Realme India chief executive Madhav Sheth told ET.
Realme is working with Bhagwati Products Ltd and Videotex International Pvt Ltd to make smart TVs in India, and KHY Electronics to manufacture smart wearables and smart hearables. Oppo, Wingtech Mobiles and DBG Technology are the manufacturing partners for smartphones. The company will soon start producing tablets and laptops in India.
Realme also has plans to enter the smart consumer durables space, with smart washing machines and water purifiers. The Chinese company’s non-handset business currently contributes 10% to its overall India business.
Realme is also increasing its focus on the premium segment and will bring in its first $800 5G phone to India.Internet Explorer Channel Network
