We all love snooping inside fancy houses on properly websites, but a million-euro home has left some people reeling.
When looking for a new home, comprises are usually needed. Whether it’s location, size or knowing that expensive renovations are needed, it’s rare to find the perfect property.
Enter a stunning five-bedroom detached residence in Middlesex, south east England, boasting a price tag of £1,350,000 (€1,577,475). With promises of an idyllic family-friendly location, abundant natural light and a conservatory leading to a patio and spacious garden, it at first glance seems like the epitome of luxury living.
However, stepping through its doors reveals a peculiar design quirk that left prospective buyers scratching their heads.
In 2019, Toby Davies took to Twitter – now known as X – to share his bemusement and sparked a viral sensation that garnered over 6,000 likes and 2,500 reposts.
His tongue-in-cheek query about the property’s plug socket count quickly escalated into a social media storm. He wrote: “Thinking about buying this house, but I’m not sure it has enough plug sockets.”
People were concerned for the previous homeowner’s electricity bill
As the images of the home circulated, it became evident why Toby’s concerns are more than warranted. What started with the stunning exterior and a dreamy kitchen, escalated to walls adorned with an astonishing array of sockets, seemingly multiplying in every conceivable corner.
Among them are sockets stacked on top of one another, sockets halfway up the walls and sockets running underneath the windows.
So. Many. Sockets.
Some people asked if they were running the CIA from their front room
To put it simply, there are more plug sockets than you can possibly imagine one property needing, and begs the question of what on earth the previous owners were getting up to inside.
With the owners clearly having never laid eyes on a multi-plug adapter or an extension lead, people were left completely baffled as to what all the outlets were possibly used for.
Rightmove.
The sheer abundance of sockets raised eyebrows and questions aplenty. One person asked “were they running the CIA from the front room?” and another added “was this an electrician’s training centre at one point?”. A third joked the last electricity bill was £1,452,092 (€1,696,769) for the quarter.
So. Many. Sockets.
Someone else wrote, “that genuinely makes me feel ill”, to which someone replied “yes, same. It’s like trypophobia”. Trypophobia is a fear of or aversion to tightly packed patterns of holes or other similar patterns, such as those found in honeycombs, sea sponges, or soap bubbles. For those who have trypophobia, these sights might make them feel panicky, shaky and sick.
People couldn’t figure out why anyone would need so many plugs
For those who are big fans of electricity, it could be the perfect property, offering three bathrooms, a garage and a lovely breakfast bar.
Today, the property is still listed online, however it is ‘under offer’. The online description fails to address why there are so many sockets. You can check out more information about the home here.
