Teng family goes full circle as Jeron wins first PBA title with SMB

YOU never forget your first.

Jeron Teng certainly won’t forget this one as he claimed his first ring after San Miguel’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup triumph in just his first conference with the ballclub.

But making this more memorable was that he got this as a part of the Beermen – the same franchise where his dad Alvin won nine PBA titles.

Teng celebrates first PBA title

“It’s special. It’s my sixth year in the league and it’s my first time to win a championship. I’m really blessed na nakuha ko pa sa San Miguel kasi dad ko played proudly sa San Miguel,” said Teng.

Coming in the offseason as a free agent signee after his contract with Converge expired, the former La Salle star is just humbled by this career breakthrough.

“I’m really blessed that I was given the chance to play for San Miguel. Words can’t describe how happy I am,” he said.

Truly, it’s a full-circle moment for the Tengs.

Robocop a proud father

“Syempre masayang masaya ako kasi first time ni Jeron na mag-champion at iba din yung feeling kasi galing San Miguel din ako eh,” said Alvin, who wore the same threads from 1986 to 1994 and carved a reputation as a hardknocks bruiser that earned him the moniker Robocop.

That grit allowed the elder Teng to thrive in a star-studded roster that included legends like Ramon Fernandez, Samboy Lim, Hector Calma, and Yves Dignadice, among others.

And it’s much the same for Jeron, adapting to this new team as he turned from a ball-dominant scorer with the FiberXers to a reliable defender in the Beermen camp.

This just puts a big smile on the face of Alvin, who said: “Sabi ko sa kanya gumawa ka ng trademark sa laro kasi iba ang tatay sa anak eh. Be ready lang kasi bago lang siya. Pero yun nga, maraming offensive players sa team kaya siguro nag-focus siya sa depensa,

Pero kung anong kailangan ng team, yun lang ang gawin niya at nagawa naman niya.”

Iba ang may pinagsamahan? More like iba ang may pinagmanahan.
