Ranji Trophy 2023-24: Manoj Tiwary gets guard of honour from Bihar team in final match

Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary got a fitting farewell from the Bihar team as they decided to give him a guard of honour ahead of his retirement from first class cricket on Saturday, February 17.Â

Tiwary had taken to social media on Saturday to announce his decision to step away from red-ball cricket for Bengal. The former India batter had made a sensational U-turn on retirement last year in August in a bid to help Bengal lift the Ranji trophy.Â

However, a dismal campaign meant that Bengal failed to make it to the quarterfinals of the campaign. On Saturday, after the day’s play, Tiwary posted the video showing the guard of honour from the Bihar team when he came out to bat.Â

The Bengal skipper called it a ‘special one’ and thanked the Bihar team for their wonderful gesture. Tiwary said he would remember this act from the Bihar team for a long time.Â

“It will remain a special one indeed. Thank you #TeamBihar for the wonderful gesture in the leadership of their captain Ashutosh Aman.”

“I will remember this “Guard Of Honour” for ages,” said Tiwary on X.Â

Manoj Tiwary scores 30 in final innings for Bengal

Bengal had bowled out Bihar for just 95 runs on Friday on the back of four-wicket hauls from Mukesh Kumar and Suraj Jaiswal. Tiwary would come on to bat with the score at 182 for three and formed an 80-run stand with opener Abhimanyu Easwaran.Â

Tiwary would go on to score 30 off 70 balls, as he played the anchor role in the partnership with Easwaran scoring the bulk of the runs for Bengal. Tiwary was trapped in front of the stumps by his counterpart Ashutosh Aman.Â

Tiwary’s innings consisted of four boundaries.Â

Easwaran would then continue his attack on the Bihar bowlers with Abhishek Porel chipping in with 56. Easwaran would remain not out on 200 as Bengal decided to declare the innings at 411 for 5.Â

In response, Bihar have already lost opener Piyush Kumar Singh and at stumps, had 32 runs on the board. They still trail Bengal by 284 runs.Â
