The New York Rangers took a 3-0 series lead while the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks took a 2-1 series lead.
The New York Rangers scored three unanswered to beat the Washington Capitals 3-1
Barclay Goodrow’s short-handed goal in the first period was enough for the Rangers to beat the Capitals. Matt Rempe made headlines once again with a questionable hit. Rempe was suspended for elbowing New Jersey Devils’ Jonas Siegenthaler.
The Vancouver Canucks took just 12 shots but beat the Nashville Predators 2-1
J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser each scored power play goals and Casey DeSmith made 29 saves to squeak out a win. The Canucks penalty kill did its job as well. They killed all five of the Predators power play opportunities.
The Colorado Avalanche scored five in the third to beat the Winnipeg Jets 6-2
The Avalanche fired 28 shots through the first two periods and scored just once. In the third, the Jets took five penalties and the Avalanche took advantage. Casey Mittelstadt recorded three assists and Nathan Mackinnon scored his second of the series. Former Devil Tyler Toffoli scored his first of the series early in the second period.
In blow-out fashion, the Edmonton Oilers take a 2-1 series lead after beating the Los Angeles Kings 6-1
Zach Hyman scored twice to give him six goals in the playoffs and Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each recorded three points as they dismantled the Kings. The Kings gave the Oilers seven power play opportunities which is usually a recipe for a disaster against the Oilers.
