A six-year-old girl has died nine days after a car crash in Westmeath, gardai have confirmed.
The single-vehicle collision took place at 4pm on Thursday, February 8, on the M6 Eastbound between Tyrellspass and Rochfortbridge.

Following the incident, the young child was taken to Temple Street Hospital but she sadly passed away on Saturday 17 February.

A man in his 40s and a nine-year-old boy were also in the car at the time. They were not seriously injured in the crash.
Gardai said in a statement: ‘A six-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car and suffered serious injuries, was pronounced deceased at Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. The coroner has been notified, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.’

Following the crash at the start of the month, gardai appealed to road users who may have camera footage to come forward.
