Rajasthan farmer's son creates solar weed killer for safer farming, bags award
Ramdhan Lodha, an 18-year-old from Rajasthan, has emerged as a champion for safer farming practices in India. His creation, a solar-operated weed-killer machine, aims to revolutionise traditional farming methods and promote environmental sustainability.
Ramdhan showcased his groundbreaking invention at the Indian Silicon Valley Challenge hosted by Scaler School of Technology. His solar-operated weed killer machine caught the attention of judges, who awarded him a special reward of Rs1 lakh to further develop his idea.
FAMILY INSPIRATION AND MISSION FOR SAFER FARMING
As the son of a farmer, Ramdhan understood the challenges faced by agricultural communities first-hand, by observing his father and fellow farmers.
Concerned about the harmful effects of chemical pesticides on both the environment and his family’s health, he embarked on a mission to find a more effective and sustainable alternative.
“Having grown up in a farming community, I’ve seen the struggles farmers face, especially the health risks involved. My aim was to create a solution that tackles these challenges while providing an eco-friendly option to traditional methods,” Ramdhan says.
This quest led to the development of a solar-operated weed-killer machine, offering a safer and more environmentally friendly approach to weed control.
“Scaler School of Technology’s Indian Silicon Valley Challenge provided me with an incredible platform to showcase my invention, and I am grateful for this opportunity. My ultimate dream is to see farmers all over India using my machine someday,” adds the young innovator.

ECO-FRIENDLY AND CUSTOMISABLE WEED KILLER
Ramdhan’s machine operates solely on solar energy, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional weed control methods.
It boasts customisable length and portability, reducing the risk of farmers inhaling toxic pesticide mist. These features not only enhance safety but also makes operation through lightweight machinery.
Ramdhan’s unwavering dedication, despite financial constraints, resulted in him working for four to five years to refine the machine’s design and functionality.
With support from family and teachers, his hard work earned him the prestigious National Child Scientist Award, underscoring his invention’s potential.
