WAGGA

BEST BET

Race 6, No.7: KRUANUI

Locally trained galloper by a locally based sire; 33 of his 59 runs have been here at home for 4 wins, 10 seconds and 2 thirds. So well placed here.

NEXT BEST

Race 8, No.11: PRINCE SIX

Had the outside alley and topweight in a race run against him to some degree at Port Mac. Up to the mile and down significantly in weight now.

VALUE BET

Race 7, No.5: FLORA BEL

Third-up here, she is a heavy track winner, and no doubt that is she brings her ‘best’, she would be in the finish.

QUADDIE

Race 6: 6,7

Race 7: 1,5,8,10

Race 8: 10,11,12

Race 9: 3,5,6

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Blaike McDougall has is on 167 winners for the season has nine rides on Friday to improve his incredible tally.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA

RACE 1

Logan River won first-up at the start of the previous campaign on a Heavy 10 here at Wagga and over the 1000m to boot so this scenario will be very familiar to this Mitchell Beer trained son of Snitzel and direct relative on Snippets. Yeldarb is a muddie; seven starts on Heavy for three wins and two seconds. Big run at Albury last start. Shores Of Avalon is a big query on Heavy but is a last start (synthetic) winner so is in form.

Bet: Logan River to win, quinella 1,5

RACE 2

Casino Time is a Gratz Vella trained son of the VRC Derby winner Monaco Consul. He got through the Soft 6 here sufficiently well last Friday winning a 2000m race by two-lengths. Heavy is the little query compared to Slow. Not so for the mudlark Girls Are Ready who gives the impression that she will race well at 2000m now and in the future if she comes through this. Newtown Bluebag raced five times on heavy for four placings.

Bet: Casino Time to win, quinella 3,6

RACE 3

Hombre Grande is a So You Think gelding trained by Matthew Dale and owned by former Inglis exec and now Willow Park (Scone) boss, Glen Burrows. Will be a big effort all round if he wins on debut on such a wet track but he does look a handy type going forward. Bromelia is very fit and has done enough to warrant the highest respect. Fioroso remains winless after 16 starts but this striking son of Fiorente has placed six times, one on heavy.

Bet: Hombre Grande to win, quinella 1,8, box trifecta 1,5,8,12

RACE 4

Extravagant Lad trialled really well before he made his debut in an unusually strong maiden at Goulburn on May 28. Blaike McDougall gave him every chance (as always) but they ended up running fifth, still only three-quarters-of a length off the winner. McDougall sticks – good sign that. Mitchell Beer’s gelding Gallant Run has placed at eight of his 15 starts, four of them have been as an Albury resident. Found the right race again. Make A Right has claims.

Bet: Extravagant Lad to win

RACE 5

Shenandoah (a cleverly-named son of Virginia Breeze) has always shown a bit of talent. The Keith Dryden trained gelding has a tidy C.V of two wins and three placings from his dozen starts. He is never far away no matter where he goes and best of all, one of his wins was on a heavy track. Jac The Great has been a costly horse to follow with four seconds from the six starts. He is a winner though and will win more races. Golwen ran okay in the Swagger Highway.

Bet: Shenandoah to win, quinella 3,7

RACE 6

Kruanui is trained at Wagga and is by a stallion who stood at Wagga. No surprise then to learn that 33 of this horse’s 59 starts have been at Wagga; he has won 4 of them, run 10 seconds and 2 thirds. He is comfortable on heavy and box 3/Blaike McDougall is a giant lure. Willybeafactor has won three races in his 19 starts but two of them are at this same track and distance which brings him into it. Crimson Hoffa, Seelie Queen. O’Reg are all in the mix.

Bet: Kruanui to win, box trifecta/First 4 Nos. 1,3,6,7,10

RACE 7

Flora Bel looked like she was going to be a city class horse in time early on when she won three of her first six starts. Things haven’t worked out for her, hoof-wise mostly, but she is good enough still to be winning races and the key is to make sure she is no ‘overs’ at the next time she does. Boho Chick is a Luke Pepper trained filly whose only win so far was on a heavy 8 here at Wagga. Some nifty placement from Pepper here. Motime is a player.

Bet: Flora Bel each-way, quinella 5,10

RACE 8

Prince Six finished second at Newcastle, Gosford and Wyong in his eight runs for Mark Newnham. The son of Cup winner Fiorente made his debut for James Ponsonby in a Port Mac 1500m race on May 31 and deserves praise given that he had the outside alley and topweight. Sheds a few kilos for this and the mile is tailor-made. Twinstar Racing gelding I’m Gonna Be made a real impact late when runner-up to the handy Tullaghan here 13-days ago.

Bet: Prince Six each-way

RACE 9

Stand Your Ground has won three times here at Wagga which really plays to her strengths which in short, is finishing like Bernborough from the back. The big unknown is how she will do all that on the heavy track on Friday. She is neither a muddie or a duffer so only time will tell. Power Me Up in on a hat-trick. One thing we do know about him is that he can handle the heavy. Vallauris is a last start winner; that was a Heavy 8 too.

Bet: Stand Your Ground to win
