R40 million star wants out of Kaizer Chiefs?
Kaizer Chiefs may be about to be blind sided by a transfer request from one of their key players.
Edson Castillo was reported to have been offered a contract extension at Chiefs after increasing interest in his services.
Castillo was Chiefs’ standout performer during the first half of the season, adjusting well to the local league. The Venezuelan joined Chiefs from Monagas SC and hit the ground running for Chiefs. The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the club’s midfield, both in defence and attack. His box-to-box nature has seen him make some big tackles, telling passes and even arrive late to score himself. Castillo has already bagged five goals in all competitions for the club so far.
Subject of interest from Zamalek
His performances have caught more than just the eye of the South African football fraternity, with some continental rivals also rumoured to be interested in taking Castillo away from Chiefs. Earlier this year, this publication reported that Zamalek wanted the player. It was then established that Amakhosi wanted a whopping R40 million for him.
This publication recently revealed that Chiefs were willing to sell Castillo to Zamalek for R30 million now. Zamalek are now facing a transfer ban, which has put that move in jeopardy. According to Soccer-Laduma, however, that does not mean the player isn’t looking for a move elsewhere, still!
Castillo still wants to leave Chiefs?
“It’s tough for both the player (Castillo) and the club (Chiefs). You know the club recently offered him a new deal to keep him longer at the club. But now the player feels he is not happy, mainly in recent times. He hasn’t been playing the way he wanted to and that is affecting him. He has indicated that it could also affect his national team (Venezuela) call up as he has just returned to the team after a long absence. But maybe management will convince him that he has to wait for the new coach and see what happens after that before they can let him go or not. But seriously, he has expressed unhappiness on not playing as a first choice more regularly, mainly in the second half of the season,” said the source.
It now remains to be seen if Chiefs can convince Castillo to stay, or decide to rather cash in on him.
