Jurgen Klopp sends defiant message to Mikel Arteta over wild celebrations

Jurgen Klopp has defended Mikel Arteta after criticism over his exuberant celebrations with the Liverpool boss insisting he ‘doesn’t give a s**t’ about what people think of his own antics.

The Liverpool boss celebrated Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Luton Town by first-pumping in front of all four Anfield stands after coming from a goal behind to beat the side sat 18^th in the Premier League table at home.

It reignited debate over managers over-celebrating with Arteta and his Arsenal side targeted after their 3-1 over Liverpool last month – a result that kept the Gunners firmly in the Premier League title race.

Arteta tore down the touchline jumping for joy after his side took the lead that evening with Jamie Carragher taking aim at Martin Odegaard for his post-match celebrations with the club’s photographer.

‘I heard the discussions that Mikel over-celebrated the win against us. That definitely did not come from me,’ Klopp told a press conference.

‘You do what you do for yourself and your people and what the outside world thinks about it, I couldn’t give a s**t, to be honest. And you can write that exactly like that.

‘You can make of my celebrations what you want. I didn’t invent fist-pumps and I don’t have the copyright on it and I don’t want it.

‘This is for us and nobody else. Who likes it, likes it, and who doesn’t like it, doesn’t like it.’

Arsenal can close the gap on league leaders Liverpool this weekend with Klopp’s side taking on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

‘I want to win on Sunday but not for me or my trophy cabinet,’ said Klopp. ‘It is for the boys, for the club and for the people. That is much more important and everything will go on.

‘What we are doing at the moment is we write a wonderful book, I would say. We wrote it and we are still writing a wonderful book and when I leave we close that book.

‘We will put it on the shelf and then someone else will write another wonderful book. That is the idea. I will not leave anything inside, I will give absolutely everything until the last second.’
