The cheapest supermarkets for pre-made pancakes

As Pancake Day approaches, individuals are stocking up on their preferred pancake mixes and store-bought pre-made pancakes. This surge in demand has resulted in a 23% increase in searches for ‘supermarket pancakes’ over the month.

This prompted finance experts at Cashfloat to conduct a comparison of leading supermarket own-brand pancake prices to determine the most affordable options.

Aldi, Morrisons, and Waitrose emerged as the most budget-friendly options. They also reviewed some of the popular pancake toppings for 2024, featuring own-brand versions of lemon juice, hazelnut spread, whipped/squirty cream, chocolate chips, and golden syrup.

The analysis revealed that Aldi offers the most affordable own-brand lemon juice, at 49p, hazelnut spread, at £1.15 and chocolate chips at 65p. Asda also sells own-brand chocolate chips at 65p, while Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Co-Op are priced slightly higher at 90p.

Waitrose sells the most budget-friendly own-brand whipped cream at just £1, while both Co-Op and M&S offer the priciest option at £2. For those wanting golden syrup on their pancakes, Sainbury’s has you covered, with their own-brand alternative priced at just £1.

Sarah Connelley, Finance Expert at Cashfloat, said: “Ahead of Pancake Day, we explored the cost of top own-brand pre-made pancakes to identify the most budget-friendly options. Our analysis revealed that Aldi offers the most-affordable option, selling 8 pre-made pancakes for £1.89, costing around £0.23 per pancake.
