Washington DC: US President Joe Biden has taken notice of Russia’s overnight missile barrage on Ukraine and used it as a “stark reminder” that Vladimir Putin needs to be stopped.
Biden stated that Russia’s overnight attack is a reminder that The Russian president is committed to destroying Ukraine and that Putin “must be stopped”.
On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that Russia had launched its biggest barrage this year. Around 110 missiles were launched towards Ukraine, killing 31 civilians and leaving over 120 injured.
As per Ukrainian authorities, this was the biggest aerial assault from Moscow since the invasion took place in February 2022.
“It is a stark reminder to the world that, after nearly two years of this devastating war, Putin’s objective remains unchanged. He seeks to obliterate Ukraine and subjugate its people. He must be stopped,” stated President Biden.
Taking notice of the missile barrage, Biden used this devastating moment to urge Congress to clear more aid for Ukraine. The US President added that Ukraine intercepted the attacks using the air defence systems sent by the US and its allies.
“Unless Congress takes urgent action in the new year, we will not be able to continue sending the weapons and vital air defence systems Ukraine needs to protect its people. Congress must step up and act without any further delay,” POTUS stated.
The Russian attack also comes after the US Department of Defence approved $250 million in arms and aid to Ukraine to support its fight against Russia.
