Temp surge precedes rain showers predicted in Jordan

Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) — A slight uptick in temperatures is anticipated on Sunday, surpassing the typical levels for this time of year by approximately 7-8 degrees Celsius. Most areas of the Kingdom will experience pleasant weather, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will enjoy warm conditions, the Jordan Meteorological Department said in its daily update.

Medium to high-level clouds will dot the skies, accompanied by moderate southeasterly winds.

As Monday approaches, the weather forecast promises pleasant conditions in most regions, with the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba maintaining their warmth. Clouds are predicted at medium and high altitudes with moderate southwesterly winds.

Moving into Tuesday, a cold and humid air mass, associated with a low-pressure system centered over the Lebanese coast, will influence the Kingdom, leading to a significant drop in temperatures. A cool atmosphere, characterized by partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, will prevail throughout the country.

Intermittent moderate rain showers are anticipated in the northern and central regions, along with some southwestern areas. Moderate northwesterly winds will periodically strengthen.

Wednesday is expected to bring cold temperatures, cloudy skies, and rainfall primarily in the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, with limited rain coverage in the southwestern regions. Moderate northwesterly winds will persist intermittently throughout the day.

As evening approaches, the chance of rain will decrease, leading to a gradual dispersal of clouds. Wind speeds will gradually subside and shift direction, turning southwesterly. During the night, fog formation is likely over the mountain highlands.

Today’s peak temperatures will be between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius in Amman and various highlands throughout the Kingdom, with lows of 8C at night. The Gulf city of Aqaba will have moderate weather, with highs of 27C and lows of 15C.
