Fulton County re-issues ice advisory
FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — After two people were rescued after falling through ice on a creek in Fulton County Sunday morning, County Sheriff Richard Giardino wants to remind the public to stay off the ice. The office has advised the public to stay off the ice, but many still ignore the advisory.

“Two people were put in the ice walking to a nearby island,” Sheriff Giardino said. “When one person went through up to their neck. The others went through with their feet and legs. And an ice fisherman nearby was able to extract a male and bring them back to shore.”
This morning in Broadalbin, multiple first responders were on the scene. Broadalbin-Kenyetto Fire Department, Mayfield Fire, and Lake Valley Ambulance responded to the call after both people were pulled out of the water. Police say they were not injured, just very cold from the icy waters.
“So we’re just cautioning people to stay off the lake. There are a lot of fishermen in the bays. The ice in the bays is 5 to 8 inches, but still, there are even parts in the bays that are much thinner,” Sheriff Giardino said. “So we’re still cautioning people. Today is a perfect example.”
The sheriff’s office issued another advisory on social media warning the public of unpredictable ice thickness and how that can be unsafe for anyone on foot.
“There were snowmobiles out on the lake; fortunately, nobody went through. But today, people walking went through,” Sheriff Giardino said. “So that tells you and reinforces exactly what we’re saying…that the lake is not consistent.”
