Belfast woman releases first book after starting writing it as a teenager in school

A Belfast woman has recently released her first book after she started writing it when she was a teenager in school.

Ali Gibson has released ‘Orcus Island’, a fantasy fiction book for young adults that tells the story of a group of friends who end up stranded on an island after becoming lost at sea during a trip around the world.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Ali said that she started writing the book when she was a teenager at Methodist College, with her being delayed in finishing it due to her education and attending university in Glasgow.

She said: “Writing has always been a passion of mine and I started writing short stories and poems from a young age.

“As I got older I always aimed to expand my writing and while I was in school I came up with the idea of the book and thought that I would give it a go.

“Due to university and education commitments I was delayed in completing it until I returned home to Belfast when I threw myself into finishing the story and getting it published.

“Throughout the book you can see how my writing style matured over the years and I hope that readers will be able to see that and my own personal journey alongside the characters.
