Karnataka government to construct multi-storey building at Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park
The Karnataka government is planning to construct a multi-storey building in Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park. The building, which will have at least seven to eight floors, will serve as the office of the state Election Commission.
The case was pending before the Karnataka High Court and in 2019, it permitted the construction of the building inside Cubbon Park without cutting down any trees.
The government has taken up the matter of constructing the building again.
Many environmentalists and activists are against the government’s decision, saying the construction of a building would disturb the ecology in the park.
Cubbon Park is a green space in the heart of Bengaluru and on weekends, even vehicular movement is banned inside it.
