07:35
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 4-5 Casper Ruud
But Ruud holds out. It’s clinical from the Norwegian who fends off his opponent’s advances.
Norrie’s back on serve now but his opponent’s taken the lead, going 30-0 up.
07:33
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 4-4 (40-40) *Casper Ruud
Norrie fights back! His ability to read the game is excellent, moving at the right time to fire back on a forehand from Ruud to take the game to deuce.
Despite Ruud’s excellent service game, Norrie’s movements around the court are troubling him and he fires back at Ruud with two excellent shots to give himself another chance to break the Norwegian.
07:30
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 4-4 (40-15) *Casper Ruud
Another ace for Ruud – nothing can separate the two on service here.
The Norwegian is now up to eight aces for the match.
07:27
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 4-4 Casper Ruud
Norrie holds again!
That game only lasted one minute and 15 seconds. What a way to send a message to your opponent.
07:25
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 3-4 *Casper Ruud
Another comfortable hold for Ruud.
Speaking ahead of the match, Norrie admitted to Sky Sports that he wanted to make things uncomfortable for Ruud, who’s bested him in their last three meetings.
He also added that he felt Ruud’s serve was underrated – well we’re certainly seeing how good the Norwegian is off the baseline today!
He’s beaten me a few times in some really big matches. I’m going to look at those matches and see where I can improve.
I think a lot of the time was down to execution, him staying a bit calmer than me in the bigger moments. Every time I played him, he served really, really well. I think his serve is quite underrated.
07:23
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 3-3 (0-40) *Casper Ruud
This could be a key point in the match. After his early advances Norrie has just pulled the set back to 3-3 holding on his own serve.
Ruud is now back on the baseline and again is showing his brilliance on his own serve.
Seems like we’ve reached a bit of a stalemate with both players struggling to find a breakthrough on the oponents service.
07:21
Norrie gets the crowd going
There’s plenty of support inside the John Cain arena for the British No 1.
07:19
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 2-3 *Casper Ruud
Ruud’s back on service here and Norrie is battlng again.
But Ruud holds on his own serve despite Norrie’s advances.
He’s hit five aces so far in this match to his opponents seven and has only made one double fault so far.
07:14
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 2-2 Casper Ruud
Norrie is just not backing down at the big moments!
He remarkably saves the game again, winning the game with a backhand across court.
This is a tough one for Ruud too, he’s throwing everything at Norrie, but the confidence his opponent is showing when it matters is superb.
Looking at the stat’s, I’m a little baffled why Ruud isn’t up on the scoreboard here. He’s hit 18 winners and made just eight unforced errors.
But how long can Norrie sustain this?
07:13
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 1-1 (40-40) Casper Ruud
Norrie saves his EIGHTH break point of the match.
Wow, this is unbelievable – he sends the crowd wild as he pulls the game back to deuce with a brilliant save in the middle of the court.
He’s also up to 17 winners – can he pull this one back?
07:11
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 1-1 (15-40) Casper Ruud
This could be dangerous for Norrie.
Ruud has played brilliantly in this game and has the chance to break the British No 1.
But Norrie holds off his advances… for now at least. He forces Ruud to play his shot into the net to make it 15-40.
07:09
Looks like Norrie's shot has deflected out and hit a member of the audience!
His shot goes a little wayward into the crowd and it hits a member of the audience watching on!
Thankfully everyone is okay and the audience member laughs as the ball struck her.
07:05
*Cameron Norrie 1-0, 1-1 Casper Ruud
A potential threat to his serve comes yet again but Norrie is resilient.
He holds out to Ruud’s advances to win the game at deuce with a firey shot from the baseline.
One thing that is a little concerning right now for Norrie is that he’s made 12 unforced errors so far. Comparitively Ruud has closed out several games to love on his own service.
Norrie will perhaps need to be a little more clinical to stop the 25-year-old’s advances on his own serve.
07:03
Raducanu wants to target lower-level events
After her defeat to Chna’s Yafan Wang, Raducanu has admitted that she is prepared to compete in lower-level events.
It comes as she made her return at a Grand Slam since a long lay-off with injury.
The former US Open champion lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to China’s Yafan Wang in the Australian Open’s second round on Thursday but sits at around 300th in the WTA rankings.
‘I really believe that the level in these quote “lower-level tournaments” and these tournaments is not that big,’ Raducanu said on Thursday.
‘Because you gain so many skills, you’re playing in these conditions, the wind here was a prime example. My opponent (Wang) played a lot of ITF and got a lot of matches under her belt, but the level really isn’t that different. I would play whatever suits my schedule, whatever suits the plan.’She said
06:59
Cameron Norrie 1-0, 0-1 *Casper Ruud
How good is Casper Ruud’s service!
He’s just hit his fifth ace of the match with a belting strike to close out the game to love.
Norrie could perhaps change up his return positioning, at the moment Ruud seems to have the better of him on his first service.
06:56
*Cameron Norrie 5-4 Casper Ruud – Norrie takes the first set!
Norrie wins the first set!
He’s made to work for it but he makes good the advantage jumping nto a forehand to smash his way past the Norwegian.
What a start from the British No 1 who’s defended FIVE break points!
06:54
*Cameron Norrie 5-4 (40A-40) Casper Ruud
Ruud holds Norrie to deuce as the Brit looks to take the first set.
And he pushes Norrie right to the limit with Norrie just about managing to wrestle the point off Ruud, forcing his opponent to send his return out of play to win advantage.
06:51
*Cameron Norrie 5-4 Casper Ruud
Ruud takes the ninth game and pulls it back to 5-4.
Interestingly, Ruud hasn’t played poorly today but that costly break earlier has put a dent in his stride.
The Norwegian has hit nine winners to his opponent’s 12 so far in the first game – an impressive return, but he’ll have to do better as Norrie looks to take the first set in the next game.
Can he come back?
06:47
Good vibes only at the Australian Open!
06:46
Cameron Norrie 4-3 *Casper Ruud
Ruud pulls a game back and he is strong on service – despite being broken early he does have a belter of a serve that Norrie is struggling to fire back on.
But Norrie is playing really well here and perhaps is a little buoyed by his comeback win earlier this week…
06:40
*Cameron Norrie 4-2 Casper Ruud
Yes he can! Norrie goes 4-2 up!
After a poor start to the match Norrie is really in control now, he gives a big fist-pump to the crowd after playing a lovely volley down the middle of the court – which Ruud just can’t quite reach.
Norrie really has command of the match now!
06:39
*Cameron Norrie 3-2 (40A-40) Casper Ruud
What a rally!
Norrie even clipped one around the net to pull the game back to deuce.
I think this match will go the distance…
The British No 1 pulls back the advantage, can he go 4-2 up?
06:38
*Cameron Norrie 3-2 (40-40A) Casper Ruud
Advantage goes to Ruud!
Ruud pulls him to the net before striping a shot down towards the left side of the court to win the point.
06:36
*Cameron Norrie 3-2 (30-40) Casper Ruud
First Ace from the British No 1!
It’s a belter as well with Norrie firing a huge 197km/h Ace past his opponent.
We’ll go to deuce!
06:35
Cameron Norrie 3-2 *Casper Ruud
Ruud hits back!
He cruises through the next game to bring things back to 3-2.
Their last meeting came back in Miami in 2022 where Ruud defeated the Brit in straight sets.
Here’s the tale of the tape between the pair…
06:32
*Cameron Norrie 3-1 (40-15) Casper Ruud
Norrie capitalises on the break!
Some smart play from the British No 1 sees him pull Ruud to the net and Ruud can’t find an answer to his well-timed drop shot!
He goes 3-1 up! A great start from the Brit who has never beaten his opponent.
06:29
*Cameron Norrie 2-1 (40-15) Casper Ruud
Norrie’s back on serve here and he’s getting a bit of thythm here.
Dictating play once again, the Brit is taking more control of the rallies firing back at Ruud’s thumping back hand before forcing him to hit the net.
06:26
Cameron Norrie 2-1 (40-15) *Casper Ruud
Norrie breaks Ruud!
An excellent start for the 28-year-old! After giving Ruud a point back with a wild backhand, Norrie forces the error against his opponent to take the first break!
Ruud interestingly has spend the most time out on court this week compared to his opponent, having played five hours and 56 minutes of tennis, compared to Norrie’s five hours and 51 minutes.
06:24
Cameron Norrie 1-1 (30-0) *Casper Ruud
Norrie hits back again!
He’s gone 30-0 up against Ruud’s ferocious serve, sweeping him away with an excellent forehand!
06:23
*Cameron Norrie 1-1 Casper Ruud
Norrie wins the game and pulls level!
A good start from the Brit after going 1-0 down.
But Ruud is back on service, and is a towering presence off the baseline.
06:21
*Cameron Norrie 0-1 (30-15) Casper Ruud
Norrie starts his service game but Ruud responds well to his toweering serve.
He bounces back to bring Ruud to the net with a lovely drop shot and the Norwegian can’t tip the ball over the Brit to the back of the court giving him a 30-15 lead in the game.
The next exchange is a tense one and the first long rally of the match. Norrie moves his opponent around the court, pulling him from one tramline to the next before tapping a deft shot down the left flank of the court to win the point.
06:17
Cameron Norrie 0-1 *Casper Ruud
A great start from Ruud. He takes the first three points to go 40-0 up.
Norrie pulls a point back but it’s not going to be enough with Ruud looking strong on service, he takes the first game.
06:16
We're underway!
It’s Ruud to serve to Norrie first!
And he gets off to a fast start, picking up the first point after a wild forehand back from Norrie.
06:14
Ruud's road to the third round
Ruud has had a very similar tournament to Norrie thus far, beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of the tournament in three sets
Despite that he had to battle hard to defeat Australian Max Purcell in front of a partisan crowd at the Margaret Court Arena.
It was a Thursday thriller with the Norwegian outlasting his opponent in the gruelling heat to win 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7).
And the match was every bit as exciting as the score says, with Ruud looking exasperated after the tie having clinched the victory.
06:11
We're nearly ready to go!
There’s a big crowd here inside the John Cain arena for this match – which is set to be a big one!
The players are now out on court and have just completed the coin toss.
Norrie will want to get off to a better start here today as he looks to claim his first win against Ruud.
Speaking on his opponent Ruud said to EuroSport, ‘He is going to try and seek revenge’ after the pair have met three times in the past on the hard courts.
05:59
Alcaraz into the next round!
We’ve just watched a huge match between Hubert Hurkacz and Ugo Humbert, with the Polish tennis star coming back from going a set down to defeat his opponent 6-3 1-6 6-7 (4-7) 3-6.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the next round of the tournament after Juncheng Shang retired with injury during their third round match.
The world No 2 will take on Miomir Kecmanovic in the fourth round after he beat Tommy Paul over five sets.
Hows this for a shot from Alcaraz!
05:49
The last brit standing!
Can Norrie book his place in the next round?
Barring a small blip in the second round, he’s looked solid so far in Australia after beating Juan Pablo Varillas in three sets in the opening round before coming back after going two sets down to Giulio Zeppieri in his last match on Friday.
Norrie would rally in the third set to dominate the Italian, winning all three of the remaining sets.
He comes into the tournament seeded at 19th having been beaten by Alejandro Tabilo in the quarter finals of the ATP 250 in Auckland prior to the Grand Slam.
Can the British No 1 book his place in the next round?
05:47
